Can having imaginary friends be linked to autism somehow?
Most of us do have hyperactive imaginations and also keep our imaginary friends long beyond when allistic children usually are recorded to lose them. It’s due to the fact that it’s escapism yes but they tend to be our only friends. Or the only friends that seem to understand us.
There are autistic people and neurodiverse people that will keep their imaginary friends well into adulthood. Or lose imaginary friends as kids and pick them up again or make new ones into adulthood as well.
It depends on the situation and where we are in our lives.
